Title has now been issued for our section in Beachlands which is very exciting. Building company signs have sprung up through a good part of the subdivision, and part of Stage 5 (the next area to be developed) has just been released.

We have some new supporters on board which is fantastic, including local Lighthouse Real Estate, based in Pine Harbour, Beachlands, who will be helping us with a greenhouse and organic gardens.

We welcome Parex Industries into the fold, with a few important parts of the home: An EcoSpring hot-water-heat-pump hot water cylinder, a recycling/trash compactor and a waste disposal to process everything our composting won’t. The water heater is crucial in achieving our goals of positive energy and is the most efficient form of water heating available to us.

Dulux will be assisting with paint and stains for the project, both inside and outside, and Ampelite will be supplying the Solasafe Polycarbonate roofing and accessories for the Pergola on the West side of the home. Paterson will be helping with Grohe and Villeroy & Boch tapware and kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The Grohe taps will be water-saving, due to our reliance on the water tanks.

We’ve been keeping a close eye on Trademe for recycled timber or materials that could be used in the home, and have secured a couple of bulk lots of recycled clay bricks, removed from old villas. We’ve tucked away about 12-1300 bricks now which we’re looking at using in the construction of the dividing wall on the front of the house, the veggie gardens and composting – and perhaps in the lounge/dining area around the fireplace.

A great deal of time is being spent on finalising budgets and suppliers, as well as interviewing builders. We hope to have all of this locked away in this month (February) and complete the detail on the plans so we can apply to Council for a building consent as soon as possible. Once this has been completed we can post more detail around the plans and pricing and announce who will be actually building the project for us, so stay in touch!
